Airlines continue to see the moving map as a centerpiece for a compelling inflight entertainment experience. Panasonic Avionics is boosting that opportunity, releasing several major enhancements to its Arc in-flight map platform last week at World Aviation Festival in Lisbon.
The latest Arc evolutions…transform the map into a platform for storytelling, inclusivity, and brand connection, while reinforcing Panasonic Avionics’ position as a leader in map innovation and passenger-centric design.

The features aim to bring emotion to the experience while increasing the level of information available. The updates also improve airline brand differentiation opportunities and options for integration into the broader IFE experience while boosting accessibility.

The announced updates include:
- Arc Vistas – Using the Arc map engine, Vistas delivers cinematic fly-through visuals for passengers during their trip.
- Airline Route Maps – Airlines can now highlight their global networks directly within the in-flight experience through customizable route maps. This feature can (at least theoretically) integrate with airline loyalty program data to highlight passenger-specific route maps and other features.
- Increased Accessibility – The latest Arc UI adds text scaling and color adjustments, among other options to ensure readability for passengers with visual impairments and improve visibility for colorblind or low-vision users.
- Arc Integration APIs – Newly introduced integration APIs allow airlines to break Arc content out of the dedicated map channel and deliver map data and visuals to other passenger touchpoints, such as airline apps, portals, and seatback experiences.
Accessibility, in particular, is a pressing issue for the industry. Multiple recent conversations at trade shows highlight its importance, but progress can be challenging. Though on the map front FlightPath3D also has an accessible mode for its version, adopted last year by Delta Air Lines.

Arc claims 35 airline customers covering more that 1,000 committed aircraft worldwide. These new features will be available to the existing customer base as well as offered to new clients.
