Azerbaijan Airlines will fit its incoming fleet with Viasat‘s Amara inflight connectivity solution. The deal, announced at the 2025 Dubai Air Show will bring connectivity to the carrier for the first time.
With the introduction of high-speed Wi-Fi, we will offer passengers a new level of comfort and connectivity during their journey. – Samir Rzayev, President of Azerbaijan Airlines CJSC
Service will be complimentary for business class passengers on board as well as top-tier members in the carrier’s frequent flyer program. The offering also includes streaming in-flight entertainment, extending a service the carrier initially activated in 2022.
The deal covers “twenty new aircraft” across the carrier’s A320neo and 787-9 fleet. The companies note that the first aircraft are already fitted with the service. Two new A320neo planes (VP-BAK, VP-BBK) joined the fleet in the past two weeks. Both show the tell-tall radome atop the fuselage.
Azal holds an open order for eight more 787s, though as originally announced that was for the –8 type. A dozen A320neo family aircraft were ordered around the same time, including the two just delivered. That would seem to make up the twenty mentioned in the order.
