The first British Airways aircraft fitted with the Starlink inflight internet solution is now flying. The carrier shares that G-ZBJJ, a 787-8, returned to service this week with the system installed and activated.
This milestone is part of a wider investment in elevating every aspect of our customer journey as we continue to modernize our airline.

Also, as with all other Starlink deployments, the service is complimentary on board. The British Airways announcement suggests it does not even require a loyalty program login, deviating from most recent and larger airlines’ approach to the service. Linking the session to details about the user can be spectacularly profitable for the airline, though the functionality has proven challenging for IAG in the past.
Flight tracking data suggests the installation occurred in about two weeks at the airline’s Heathrow hub rather than one of its dedicated maintenance facilities (e.g. Cardiff). Presumably the install timing will shrink as the company proceeds through the fleet, allowing it to continue to do the work at Heathrow during a shorter stay, rather than ferrying to an alternate facility.
Two aircraft are likely candidates for the next installation, based on being on the ground in London for more than a typical layover duration. G-ZBJA arrived on the 16th (ZBJJ left the hangar on the 14th) while ZBJK arrived on the 13th. ZBJK appears to have some other maintenance issues as well based on its flight history, so it may just be dealing with those, not the Starlink install. ZBJA is currently slated to return to service on Saturday. If that proves to be the next install the program would be down to 4-5 days from the initial 14.
