Progress in the aviation world can be slow, sometimes feeling Sisyphean as the certification and qualification challenges arise and are addressed. But Recaro‘s long-touted R Sphere sustainability efforts are finally set to fly, with Iberia implementing key components of the program on an A320neo as part of a trial program.
We are very proud of this step in bringing a more sustainable seating options to the cabin and partnering with Iberia as our trial customer. This collaboration is a genuine testament to our shared aspiration for a more sustainable future in aviation.

The Iberia deal is a trial, not a long-term commitment. At least to start.
The economy class R1 and R2 seats on board the A320neo will feature the upcycled literature pocket, made from salvaged fishing nets. The material is cleaned and certified as fire-safe in the upcycling process before being integrated into the seat pocket.
Walnut or plastic? The wooden endcap is lighter and prettier, plus reduces total plastic components on board
The seats also incorporate a real wood-based element integrated into the seat’s bumper, using a natural material as part of its design and material concept.
The trial will run for at least six months, allowing the companies to evaluate the product lifecycle and impact on operations.
