A premium bulkhead row experience is increasingly part of airlines’ strategies for optimizing their business class cabins. Recaro joins the fray this year with an updated design for its R7 seats.
The Business Class Plus front row offering, introduced at Aircraft Interiors Expo in Hamburg this week, significantly increases personal space for those passengers. It also creates an opportunity for a second passenger to sit in the mini-suite seat.
The Plus front row seat removes a cabin monument from the bulkhead – and a small amount of associated airline stowage – to expand the available passenger space. A bench seat replaces the foot well, and a large tray table is available, enabling a buddy dining scenario.

For the center pair seats the divider can also retract, creating a space for four, though the divider between the two guests remains.
The visual effect of the wider space at the front is significant. It feels much larger than it is (or than the rows behind) thanks to the expanded visual area.

The refreshed R7 also includes an updated set of options for the seat controls. Alas, they are all touch-only, with no tactile indicators. That’s not great for accessibility.
