The Unum One business class seat is set to fly. TAAG Angola Airlines selected Unum as supplier for the carrier’s 787 business class cabin retrofits.
The program is part of TAAG’s ongoing fleet modernization and passenger experience program.
Introducing Unum One into our business class cabin gives us the tools to enhance comfort and quality for our passengers. This upgrade aligns with our ongoing commitment to delivering a world-class travel experience.
– Miguel Carneiro, Chief Commercial Officer at TAAG
Unum One is a lie-flat seat featuring Unum’s patented Scimitar Seat mechanism. The mechanics offer infinite adjustability and a Zero G position for travelers.
Unum entered the market in early 2022, a time when few airlines were considering significant capital investment in their fleet. Founder and CEO Chris Brady addressed that challenge at the time, noting “airlines need to succeed in business class to rebuild their finances post-Covid-19. Whether an airline’s strategy is for high-density business class or a super-premium spacious environment, Unum’s seating solutions offer a consistent and superior passenger experience across both single and twin aisle aircraft.”
The company also promises lower operating costs thanks to a modular design to reduce maintenance expense and additive manufacturing to reduce weight on board. Brady also suggests supply chain won’t be a problem thanks to an approach that “mitigates risks and prioritizes local suppliers,” further helping to control costs. The company also can handle composite structural manufacturing work in-house rather than relying on outside partners.
With the first customer now secured Brady and the Unum team are looking forward to delivering the product and growing the install base. The company notes “further delivery slots available in 2026” and “capacity for both large airline programs and short-flow projects.”
TAAG holds orders for four 787s, with the first having been delivered earlier this year. That plane arrived with Jamco’s business class seating on board. The Unum One seats are due for delivery and installation in 2026. Unum notes that TSO certification is on track for 2025.
The seats will also include an IFE system delivered by Panasonic Avionics. Boeing Global Services will provide technical expertise and services for the cabin integration project.
Unum also scored a win on the Airbus side of the ledger. It signed Spanish wet-lease and charter specialist Wamos Air for that carrier’s A330-200 fleet.
The Wamos deliveries are expected to begin in Q2 2026.
