Even older planes deserve a refresh inside from time to time. And sometimes that can mean a new product launch as well. This week Italian upstart aircraft seating manufacturer JHAS announced that Tayaran Jet will be the launch customer for its new Aurora 2.0 economy class seating concept.
The first order is a small one – just a pair of 737-300s – but it is a significant step forward for the two year old manufacturer. The seats are expected to be in service by April 2020.
Beyond this first pair of planes JHAS is looking to grow its options significantly. The current EASA certification covers the 737 Classic line. The company is already working on certifications for the A320 family as well. A company spokesman says the 737NG/MAX families could be certified should a customer express interest. Given that the A320 work is underway that could be interpreted as another customer in the wings.
JHAS formed in early 2017, bringing together a skilled team of alumni from Italian seat manufacturers such as Geven and Aviointeriors. The company is confident in its skill set to evolve quickly into the aircraft seating market. Its designs are unique, with innovative shaping on the armrest, for example, and additional support in the back.
And with its first customer now under contract there’s plenty of potential for the company moving forward.
