In April AirFi announced that its streaming entertainment solution would be installed across hundreds of aircraft in the Lion Air group. This week that service went live on the Batik Air arm of the operation.
The activation is driven by the AirFi Indonesia arm PT. Dua Surya Dinamika. The implementation calls for AirFi to provide a fully-managed, turnkey solution for the Lion Air group. This covers management of the hardware, content loading, maintenance, merchandising and more. It also includes an option to expand the offering to the AirFi LEO product, adding a lightweight connectivity solution to handle simple messaging tasks for passengers or inflight credit card transaction processing for the airline. That program announced last October to much fanfare but hit snags in the implementation. It is back on track now, however, and moving towards first flight.
AirFi Indonesia’s ability to stand up the service organization and get the full service operation online this quickly is a point of pride for the company. It expects to see the implementation expand to the other Lion Air group aircraft in the near future and potentially to other airlines in the region.
