Passengers already depend on FlightPath3D for information, entertainment, and destination discovery onboard. FlightPath3D Cloud extends that experience beyond the seatback, enabling airlines to deliver connected, real-time passenger experiences across aircraft, mobile devices, and digital platforms.
– Duncan Jackson, President of FlightPath3D
The service is live on United Airlines and WestJet, per FlightPath3D. In both those cases the data link is provided by Starlink’s LEO satellite constellation.
FlightPath3D sees continued strong growth on the horizon, claiming committed deployment plans on more than 2,000 aircraft. The also means unnamed airlines are on board, given fleet sizes. With Starlink’s ever-growing collection of airlines – and also other LEO services online – the potential market continues to expand.
In celebrating the accomplishment, CEO Boris Veksler also called attention to some of the technical challenges with the offering:
Building a real-time passenger platform for global aviation requires far more than simply streaming a map to an aircraft. FlightPath3D Cloud was architected around a globally distributed infrastructure capable of supporting highly customized airline deployments across mixed fleets, each with unique branding, languages, geopolitical requirements, and passenger experiences. The platform must also transform discrete and often intermittent aviation telemetry into a smooth, real-time visual experience, requiring sophisticated interpolation, predictive processing, caching, and rendering technologies to operate reliably across global routes and connected fleets.
FlightPath3D also suggests the new platform expands the available market for its offerings within the business aviation segment. That is another market where Starlink has seen significant success in recent months, and where demand for high-end experiences is strong.
