The new Gogo 5G solution is still a year-ish away for aircraft owners, but the company wants to make installations easier today. The company announced availability of AVANCE LX5, an upgrade to the L5 solution that delivers a more compact installation on board.
LX5 expands our AVANCE product portfolio with a single box option for customers, making the installation of Gogo 5G even easier.
-Sergio Aguirre, Gogo’s president and chief operating officer
Gogo has been promising this architecture shift for a couple years now. The consolidation of hardware on board makes the AVANCE solution easier to deploy, easier to support, and opens up additional aircraft types for installation owing to the smaller on-board footprint. The LX5 solution also matches the legacy AVANCE L5 form-factor and antenna mounts, furthering the solution commonality.
But that does not mean the L5 solution is quite dead yet. Gogo still suggests that new customers install the 5G antennae today (which also support the 4G network) as well as L5 hardware. Once the Gogo 5G network is ready to launch the swap from L5 to LX5 will be provided as a free hardware swap.
Gogo also notes a MSRP of $141,000 for the LX5 solution. Rebates are available for the antenna hardware.
Gogo’s new hardware announcement follows last week’s disclosure of another design issue with the chips in the on-board terminal. Gogo 5G is now expected to go live in mid-2024, pending resolution of the chip redesign.
