When Greater Bay Airlines takes flight from Hong Kong, expected later this year, passengers will have power available at their seats. While few details of the in-flight product are available, the carrier will offer USB outlets for every passenger, with the RISE USB solution from Burrana.
Our ability to meet an aggressive modification timeline of fewer than 6 months, was key for GBA to comply with EASA certification to be able to start commercial operations in early October 2021.

The carrier intends to launch service with three 737-800s in Q4. Initial routes include Singapore, Bangkok and Phuket, subject to regulatory route and health approvals. Though starting small, ambitions are massive. GBA submitted applications to serve 104 markets in the region, including Mainland China, from 2022.
To support that route network the carrier expects to expand to 10 aircraft by next year. More than 30 are anticipated in service by 2026.
The company expects to receive its operating certificate from Hong Kong authorities later this month. A ceremonial inaugural charter flight to Beijing is planned for 1 October.
We are very excited to be partnering with Greater Bay Airlines as they launch their new operations. GBA’s selection of Burrana confirms that our lightweight architecture, flexible installation options, and ability to deliver quickly are addressing key challenges that airlines face. We look forward to a long and prosperous partnership with GBA.
– David Pook, VP Marketing & Sales Support at Burrana
The company’s first aircraft was previously operated by Norwegian and still has the radome atop the fuselage (not shown in the rendering). It has not, however, announced plans to add in-flight wifi connectivity with Anuvu, the prior provider on board. At least not yet.
