IndiGo’s newest A320neo and A321neo planes will shave a bit of weight on the seating side. The carrier selected Recaro‘s BL3710 seats to fit its next 75 aircraft, with deliveries expected from January 2023.
Our new partnership with IndiGo demonstrates our commitment to not only building a distinct product with a sustainable lifecycle, but also our comprehensive approach to customer service. The BL3710 is an excellent product that will serve both IndiGo and its passengers for many years.
– Dr. Mark Hiller, CEO at Recaro Aircraft Seating
“As we expand our network, domestically and internationally to cater to the travel demand, the comfortable seats will be key to upgrading the customer experience onboard IndiGo,” said Mr. Sanjay Kumar, Chief Strategy & Revenue Officer of IndiGo.

Specifically created to support shot-haul and medium-haul flights, the BL3710 weighs in at less than 10kg per passenger. Every bit of weight shaved helps with aircraft efficiency and reducing fuel burn.
Or, perhaps, increasing cargo capacity. The nascent air cargo market in India could benefit from increased belly capacity in the region. Upstart dedicated cargo operations (including the first A320P2F conversion) are also quickly expanding in the country. And reducing weight in the passenger cabin helps increase the belly cargo capacity.
The carrier is also the first in India to choose the BL3710. The large order is a nice boost for Recaro, and quite the entry into the subcontinent for the product.
