Viasat will provide inflight Wi-Fi service to LOT Polish Airlines‘ fleet of Dreamliners from 2026. The addition of internet on board is part of a planned retrofit for the 787s, first announced in October 2023.
At Viasat, we are aligned on LOT’s ambition to always strive to improve passenger experience. This is the start of a successful relationship that helps us to continue delivering on our mission to provide reliable, high quality in-flight Wi-Fi to passengers as they travel.
– Don Buchman, VP and GM, Commercial Aviation at Viasat
The news update also confirms that the deployment will occur across the entire 787 fleet; in October only the 787-8s were mentioned. The companies still expect installations to begin in 2026.
The installation timing allows LOT to take advantage of the newest hardware from Viasat for the service. The company’s new dual-modem modman is expected to be available for installations by the end of 2025, just in time to be part of the LOT program.

The dual modem modman, combined with new a new software-defined modem card, will initially be configured to support the ViaSat-3 satellites, including backwards compatibility for the rest of Viasat’s assets in space. The second slot will, by default, be fitted with the Velocity modem to support the GX satellites. With this system on board an aircraft would be able to switch smoothly between the satellite constellations, just as it can switch between satellites on either network today. The architecture also potentially supports future satellite waveforms, assuming they can be coded for the software-defined modem.
