Ready to chat with the inflight map? Luci Live from FlightPath3D brings that to life, with contextual prompts throughout the journey.
Can the inflight map become a (more) powerful engagement engine, holding passenger attention while driving improved satisfaction scores and boosting ancillary revenue? Airlines will soon find out thanks to the launch of Luci Live by FlightPath3D at Aircraft Interiors Expo 2026 in Hamburg. Luci Live adds a customizable, AI-backed travel companion to the moving map, going beyond typical flight and destination details to boost the interactive nature of the experience.
Context is what powers Luci, and every response is an action in the map. It’s all about ask, view, book. Ask Luci what’s cool, and you’ll zoom to your destination, with suggestions from a local guide and offers to book discounted attractions.
– Duncan Jackson, President, FlightPath3D
Luci Live builds on the company’s Luci platform, launched in 2023 and now deployed on more than 1,500 aircraft. Luci provides more than 20 million contextual factoids to passengers each month today. Luci Live extends that foundation into a real-time, two-way conversation.
More than just a narration of the journey, Luci Live turns the map interface into a conversational portal. Passengers can zoom to a destination and check what’s near their hotel or book a museum ticket, all through a single tap or natural-language prompt. The answers from Luci Live are powered by a global search and booking backend, boosting content quality and opening a new ancillary revenue stream for airlines.
Luci Live depends on a connected aircraft experience, combining real-time flight data and a live internet link to proactively deliver relevant, interactive journey information. Rather than tapping through menus, Luci Live engages with travelers via natural-language queries. Company president Duncan Jackson also highlights the ability for Luci to keep the conversation moving with follow-up prompts, not closed-end answers.
A query about how to get from the airport to downtown might start with an answer about where the ride-share pickup location is, how long it should take, and what the cost is. That could be followed by a prompt about popular restaurants or attractions, for example, including opportunities to book them. He expects that will help boost the engagement experience, driving more satisfied engagements and airline ancillary revenue through the interface.
Jackson is also clear that Luci Live is more than just adding a chatbot to the inflight experience. It adds context to the questions, enabling more compelling answers to be delivered. He sees that context as critical to the product’s potential.
In Search of Engagement Revenues
Airlines have been trying to capture booking revenue from their connected inflight experiences almost since the day inflight internet became a thing. AirTran semi-famously offered a free internet session for booking a new reservation while in the air. Others have tried adding hotel or car hire or tours, or ground transfers to portals and other interfaces, including questionable naming schemes. None have proven particularly compelling.
But the success of modern inflight map implementations shows that travelers are comfortable in that interface, trusting it as an extension of the airline brand. Airline-backed content and partnerships were supposed to deliver the revenue boost. Airlines have tried on their own, while FlightPath3D has been working to bolster the efforts on its platform for severalyears now. Being able to integrate sponsored content, something the FP3D platform supports, helps on that front. And, the company hopes, so will a more active engagement experience with the map.
