Nextant Aerospace, the engineering arm of BizAv operator Flexjet, has expanded its Starlink portfolio to include the Bombardier Global 5000/5500. The system can now be installed via Starlink Authorized Dealers, including Bombardier Service Centers worldwide.
The Global 5000/5500 join other Nextant-developed certifications in the large cabin business jet world, including:
- Global 7500
- Global 6500/6000
- Global Express
- Global Express XRS
- Gulfstream G650, G550, G450, and GIV
With the bulk of large cabin jets covered, Nextant will shift its focus to the super-mid and mid-size aircraft categories. The company plans to release installation kits for the Bombardier Challenger 3500, 350 and 300 as well as the Embraer Praetor series of aircraft in early next year. That will be followed by certified installation kits for the Embraer Phenom 300 and 100 series of aircraft, planned for early Q2 ’25.
For those looking to connect even smaller aircraft to the Starlink network Textron has options, including STC approval for the installation of a Starlink terminal on the Beechcraft King Air B200 and B300 series and Cessna Citation 560XL series aircraft.
The Starlink system provides inflight internet service via SpaceX’s constellation of low earth orbit satellites. It has been selected for installation by notable business jet fleet operators, including TransExec, Aero, and FlexJet. It has also been chosen by commercial airlines, including active deployments on JSX, Hawaiian Airlines, and Qatar Airways. Air New Zealand, Zipair, and airBaltic have signed on for the service as well.
Gogo continues to compete in the segment with its planned Galileo LEO service, built on the OneWeb constellation. Those in search of terrestrial service may also have another option soon, as Apcela plans to bring the defunct SmartSky network back online.
