Spanish LCC Evelop is the latest airline to get online in the sky. The carrier officially introduced its inflight WiFi connectivity service today.
The carrier chose the Inmarsat GX Aviation platform for its A350 fleet. Integration is provided by Collins Aerospace’s CabinConnect solution.
Like many airlines Evelop chose tiered pricing for its inflight WiFi services. The carrier offers three tiers of speed and connectivity duration for passengers. Evelop will not support streaming media on its service, even for the most expensive service plan.
While some airlines have made chat a free option, however, Evelop did not. The €2/hour pricing for that tier would be considered competitive in short-haul markets, though some competitors in Europe offer similar for free. For the long-haul routes the A350 serves, however, the costs to stay online will really add up for passengers. Given the airline’s focus on the leisure/low-cost segment of the market the relatively high pricing for the connectivity could be a significant hurdle to take rates and profitability of the service.
