Even as some airlines shy away from carrying duty free inventory on board they recognize the value the inflight sales experience can deliver. Transitioning to a digital offering helps keep that revenue dream alive. Now digital services provider Moment is boosting its profile in the sector by acquiring e-commerce expert Airfree.
The deal allows Moment to incorporate the patented marketplace experience across all its Flymingo onboard systems, boosting the duty free sales options.
[W]e must constantly innovate to accelerate the digitalization of on-board services and operations, for the benefit of passengers and airlines alike. This initiative enables us to take a technological step forward in e-commerce and marketplace, while strengthening our range of innovative solutions, designed to meet our customers’ needs. – Tanguy Morel, CEO of Moment
The Airfree solution allows for shopping on an in-seat screen or personal device, with merchandise from more than 350 duty-free stores surfaced in the shopping portal. Despite the large range of shopping options, Airfree’s solution uses a patented technology to minimize bandwidth transferred on and off the plane. This keeps operating costs for the system low while maintaining the large catalog of options.
Passengers can order securely and choose from multiple delivery options – including on the plane, at the airport, or at home – depending on the product(s) selected.
Ultimately, Moment hopes the move furthers its position in the transport sector, delivering new opportunities for carriers to generate additional revenue while enriching their passengers’ user experience.
