Panasonic Avionics and Intellian aim to deliver a new terminal for inflight connectivity, bringing high-speed, low-latency service online in a compact package. The electronically steered array (ESA) solution will provide connectivity to Eutelsat‘s Oneweb LEO constellation.
We are introducing a solution that will redefine in-flight connectivity, combining our proven expertise with Panasonic’s leadership to deliver unmatched value and performance for airlines worldwide.
– Eric Sung, CEO of Intellian Technologies
PAC and Intellian expect the terminal to deliver up to 195 Mbps performance with <100ms latency on the Oneweb network. The companies anticipate the system to be available for retrofit installations in late 2026.
The new terminal is pitched as “complementing” the existing antenna portfolio and “reinforcing [PAC’s] strategic commitment to providing network- and orbit-agnostic in-flight connectivity.” John Wade, VP Connectivity at Panasonic Avionics also suggests that the new antenna is likely to be used as an additive solution to existing installs, not necessarily a replacement:
I expect many airlines to adopt a multi-terminal approach, and, with Panasonic Avionics, they can quickly and affordably add this terminal to any connectivity-equipped aircraft to immediately offer multi-orbit capabilities. This approach will not only improve passenger satisfaction, drive net promoter scores, enhance loyalty and increase revenue, it also will deliver the peace of mind our airline customers expect from a connectivity solution that is cost-effective, resilient and eliminates ‘dark flights’.
The new terminal promises to be half the weight of GEO or multi-orbit terminals. It also comes in a low-drag package that is installed without need for an external radome. It also integrates the modem and controller to reduce installation complexity. This includes expectation of an overnight installation window.
