With more than a dozen aircraft fitted, Turkish Airlines is finally ready to officially launch its newest in-flight connectivity platform. The service, powered by Anuvu and in-country partner Profen, can be accessed on 13 of the company’s Airbus A321 and Boeing 737NG planes.
Our successful partnership with Anuvu, Profen and Turkish Technic has culminated in bringing our passengers the fastest and most reliable connectivity in the market. Accomplishing this great milestone through the challenges of COVID-19 is something of which the entire team is very proud. This launch of the commercial entry into service reaffirms our commitment to the partnership.
– Prof. Ahmet Bolat, Turkish Airlines’ Chairman of the Board
Anuvu’s Airconnect Global Connectivity system for Turkish Airlines incorporates Turkish Technic servers and wireless access points. The system also takes advantage of Profen’s Turkiye-based terrestrial infrastructure to provide Turkish Airlines’ passengers gate-to-gate connectivity.
As part of the installation program, Anuvu obtained European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) approval for three internally developed Supplemental Type Certificates (STCs) for the installation of its Airconnect Global Ku IFC system onboard Airbus A321, Boeing 737-800 and Boeing 737-900ER aircraft.
As of May 16, the system has been implemented on 13 aircraft. The companies expect to complete installations on 103 aircraft in the year ahead.
Meeting that target will require a significant acceleration of the installation process. The first install completed in December 2020 on a 737 and the A321 STC came nine months ago.
Celebrating the service activation, Mike Pigott, Anuvu’s Executive Vice President Connectivity highlighted the success of the partnership that brought the system online:
The joint effort between Anuvu, Profen, and our partners at Turkish Airlines and Turkish Technic is a testament to how high-performing teams can succeed and overcome obstacles. Through collaboration and partnership, we were able to bring together all necessary components—from network to infrastructure to hardware—to provide Turkish Airlines’ passengers with high-speed Wi-Fi.
