SkyFive and Bluebox are teaming up to demonstrate the power of inflight entertainment and connectivity to drive an improved passenger experiences and stronger ancillary revenue generation. Their approach brings the Bluebox Blueview platform into the aircraft, hosted on SkyFive hardware or delivered via the company’s air-to-ground internet link.
Passengers increasingly expect more personalized, digital experiences onboard, but airlines insist on clear commercial outcomes. Our architecture was designed open from the outset, and working with Bluebox now allows us to bring together connectivity and passenger engagement in a way that gives airlines more flexibility and more opportunity to create value.
– Dirk Lindemeier, CCO at SkyFive
SkyFive continues to generate airline interest in its air-to-ground inflight internet service. Those airlines are also looking for ways to generate increased direct revenue from that connectivity, explains Bluebox’s Head of Account Management and Partnerships Dougie Brown. By integrating the Blueview platform into the offering, airlines can add inflight entertainment, plus advertising, retail sales, and order-to-seat services in the cabin.
The companies also note that airlines have flexibility in the implementation. They can house the retail offering in the Blueview Cloud platform, with data traffic running over the SkyFive inflight internet link. They can also take advantage of SkyFive’s OpenServer on-board hardware and run a Blueview instance in the aircraft.
As with other digital platforms, the pair expect to deliver a boost to the inflight passenger experience with this partnership. Passengers could benefit from personalized entertainment recommendations and a broader content catalog, updated more frequently thanks to the live internet link. At the same time, airlines can expect to reduce fraud via live payment processing while boosting revenues from dynamic advertising, targeted offers, and a better cabin retail experience.
