British Airways has plenty of premium services capacity at its Heathrow home base and far too few passengers using it. Package holiday travelers this summer will benefit from that excess. Holiday-makers traveling in the economy or premium economy cabins can receive an upgrade to the business class ground experience while business class passengers might be eligible for first class treats, so long as they spend enough on the vacation package.
After the last year, we know how much our customers are looking forward to getting away this summer. We want to make their experience extra special as we welcome them back to travel, by helping them to begin their holiday in style.
– Claire Bentley, Managing Director of British Airways Holidays
Those travelling in Club World or Club Europe (business class) and spending a minimum of £2,500pp will be eligible for First Wing check in and complimentary access to the Galleries First Lounge at London Heathrow Terminal 5.
For economy and premium economy passengers the spend threshold is £1,500pp, along with a 5-night minimum booking requirement. The benefits include:
- Premium check-in
- Fast Track Security
- British Airways Galleries Club Lounges access
- Priority boarding (from 21 June 2021)
The offer applies to holidays with departure dates between 9 June and 30 September 2021 as part of a Flight + Hotel and/or Car holiday package.
The cost to BA for delivering these benefits is marginal, with most lounge and check-in expenses fixed against staffing needs, regardless of the number of travelers. Given the depressed overall travel levels currently the capacity in the terminal is more than sufficient.
And the premium experience might just be enough to encourage those passengers to splurge on their next trip and buy the better experience outright.
