Delta Air Lines plans to update its A330 fleet cabins, bringing mini-suites into the mix.
In a DOT notice filed last Friday (31 October) and published on Wednesday the company shared that the full A330ceo fleet – 42 aircraft – are expected to be refreshed, with the work performed by Delta Flight Products.
A strong demand for premium travel, especially on long-haul routes, will inform the new cabin layouts.
Both the –200 and –300 types will be fitted with 34 mini-suite business class seats, including a privacy door.
The –200 will receive three rows of Premium Select (premium economy) in a 2-3-2 layout.
These numbers match the configuration flying today with the older hardware.
The –300 will add a fourth row of Premium Select compared to today’s layout, giving it 28 seats in the premium economy cabin.
In economy class the –200 will fly with 32 Comfort Plus extra legroom seats and 134 regular economy. This compares to 24/144 today.
The –300 will fly with 56 Comfort Plus and 163 in regular economy. This compares with 24/203 today. Adding the row of Premium Select appears to be a 1:1 swap for an economy row, with more Comfort Plus flying as well.
Increasing the Comfort Plus cabin, in particular, is a different tack from American’s approach in its newer premium-heavy layouts on its 787-9P and A321XLR cabins.
A timeline for the retrofit was not included in the filing. A request for comment to Delta is pending at time of publication.
