The SES multi-orbit solution combines capacity from both geostationary (GEO) and low Earth orbit (LEO) satellites, connected via the Gilat electronically steered array (ESA) antenna technology. This architecture sees the system dynamically connect to the strongest available network, delivering connectivity across Royal Brunei’s route network. Critically, the solution delivers consistent connectivity in areas where LEO services are not authorized, including China and India.
SES’s emphasis on the coverage availability hits particularly hard as Korean activates its initial aircraft with Starlink and VietJet signed a commitment with the provider, both flying a significant portion of their operations over China where the Starlink system is not authorized to operate.

Blane Boynton, Senior Vice President Aviation at SES, also notes that Royal Brunei is the first airline to complete a multi-orbit deployment in the APAC region, “with five additional APAC airlines installing our system by the end of 2027.”
