
SES entered the inflight connectivity market indirectly with its Open Orbits program. It was happy to let other companies manage the airline relationship while it focused on satellite capacity and coordinating “roaming” agreements with suppliers around the globe. Now that it owns Intelsat, however, that direct relationship exists, and the company expects it to grow.
That brings significant potential upside to the business, as well as potential conflicts and challenges.
