Is anyone betting in favor of La Compagnie?

6 February 2015 By Seth Miller 1 Comment

La Copmagnie is expanding to London, and that just might be the first hint that the airline is in trouble. Of course, lower fuel costs will help, but it is unclear just what the survival plan really is.

Friday Flyday: Departing Love Field on Virgin America

30 January 2015 By Seth Miller Leave a Comment

Taking a quick hop on one of the new Virgin America routes from Dallas to LaGuardia was an opportunity to explore the airport for my first time and fly a carrier I haven’t been on in a while.

How Gogo found trouble with traffic shaping

8 January 2015 By Seth Miller 8 Comments

It should come as no surprise that Gogo filters content to passengers on board; the company is pretty clear about that. But how it is happening has touched off a bit of a firestorm this week. And I think the company is probably in the wrong.

Are in-seat entertainment screens ready to disappear?

9 December 2014 By Seth Miller 14 Comments

Is the end nigh for in-seat entertainment screens? Streaming media to passengers’ personal devices is growing rapidly. But Thales/LiveTV says the imminent death of the screen may be greatly exaggerated.

American Airlines’ $2bn commitment to catch up

9 December 2014 By Seth Miller 7 Comments

A $2bn budget means American Airlines business class seats are getting an upgrade. So are lounges. But is it just a case of keeping up with the Andersons or is there really something special here?

AT&T disconnects in-flight wifi plans

11 November 2014 By Seth Miller 2 Comments

AT&T’s on-again/off-again relationship with in-flight internet is, once again, on the outs. The telco is walking away from the announcement made just 6 months ago that it would compete in the market.

The future of IFE: Ads & revenue

15 September 2014 By Seth Miller 2 Comments

The future of in-flight entertainment and connectivity will be focused on ads and revenue generation for the providers. That’s the message at this year’s APEX Expo conference. Consider yourself warned.

The flight I chose, and the RPU winner is…

12 August 2014 By Seth Miller 6 Comments

What’s the difference between in-flight comfort and enjoying the trip overall? Just one example: I’m flying coach rather than business class because I know I’ll arrive more alert and happier.

The tale of three in-flight internet services

10 July 2014 By Seth Miller 3 Comments

It is not often that one gets to test multiple in-flight wifi providers on the same day. I guess I can say I got lucky in that regard. Getting to use three different services within a 10-day span made for some good “comparison shopping” so to speak.
