United Airlines has heard the stroopwafel pleas. After removing the Dutch treat from its cabins in mid-2018 the carrier reintroduced them in a limited fashion earlier this year. As of 1 July 2019, however, the snacks will be available for economy class passengers on every domestic flight, regardless of departure time.

Since we reintroduced free snacks a few years ago, our customers have come to look forward to enjoying their personal favorites on board – whether it be the stroopwafel, our exclusive maple wafers or the classic pretzels. Now we’re going a step further and when it comes to snacks, every customer wins since our entire inflight snack lineup is available to choose from no matter the time of day. – Toby Enqvist, United’s Chief Customer Officer
The carrier will also offer pretzels on board, as well as a rotating third option. Currently that is Byrd’s Maple Wafers.
The shift brings consistency to the passenger experience, regardless of flight time. That’s generally good news for passengers as travel schedules can vary from “real world” timing, as can cravings. Knowing that the choice you want should be catered on board helps ease the overall flight experience.
Switching up the offerings this way also should lead to reduced complexities for catering the aircraft – the same load gets on board every time. Combine that with reduced complexity for flight attendants, and fewer passengers mad at them that the snack they had last time isn’t on board, and everyone appears to come out ahead.
In addition to the updated complimentary snacks United will continue to offer its Choice Menu Snack shop and Bistro on board, which feature hot and cold entrées and snacks, as well as specially curated items that are unique to United.

“our customers have come to look forward to enjoying them on board” hahaha, sure, we have joy dreams of flying cramped planes and enjoying this crap…. Talking about nonsense
The quote doesn’t say anything about enjoying the seats. And the complaints raised when they were pulled from the planes suggest that pax do, indeed, enjoy eating them on board.
Personally I find them too sweet to enjoy more than occasionally, but that’s a different story.
Also, of course it is somewhat mindless nonsense. It is a quote in a press release. ¯_(ツ)_/¯
I’m glad United brought baçk the stroopwafel. Yes, they are sweet. But they’re a great occasional treat.
