SkyWest announced a firm order for 20 Embraer 175 regional jets as part of its earnings release this afternoon. Aircraft deliveries are expected to begin later in 2020. The aircraft will be fitted with 76 seats and fly for American Airlines.
We’re pleased to continue advancing our position in the industry with this latest order of new Embraer aircraft. We appreciate the long-standing partnership with Embraer and look forward to operating this outstanding aircraft for all four of our mainline partners. – Chip Childs, President and Chief Executive Officer of SkyWest, Inc.
The E175s will fly with 12 First Class seats, 20 Main Cabin Extra seats offering additional legroom and 44 seats in the Main Cabin. They will be equipped with inflight wifi service and streaming IFE similar to the rest of the American Eagle fleet. They also include full-size overhead bins, leather seats and adjustable headrests.
The planes will operate under a newly signed 10-year deal with American Airlines. American also has E175s under contract with Compass Airlines, Envoy Air, and Republic Airways. SkyWest operates CRJ-700s for American Eagle today.
The aircraft were previously recorded in Embraer’s 2019 Q4 order book and are expected to be financed via debt issued by SkyWest. Ten aircraft are expected to be delivered in 2020 with the next 10 to deliver in the first half of 2021.
