Air India made a big splash earlier this year with its plans to massively boost its inflight entertainment content. Now the carrier is sharing that the movies, music, games, and TV shows will be delivered to passengers on 51 planes via the Thales AVANT Up inflight entertainment system.
Partnering with Thales for its top-of-the-class AVANT Up inflight entertainment systems is a step in the direction of our transformation program. This latest inflight entertainment technology will allow us to stay at the forefront of aviation technology and will help us provide our passengers with a unique onboard entertainment system.
– Rajesh Dogra, Chief Customer Experience Officer, Air India
The AVANT Up platform includes Thales’ Optiq 4K QLED HDR displays from nose to tail. In addition to the modern screens, Optiq includes USB-A and USB-C ports for high-speed charging and dual Bluetooth connections for headset pairing or dual headphone jacks for those who prefer wired connections.
We are committed to support the airline’s transformation by delivering state-of-the-art AVANT Up technologies that transcend the ordinary to offer Air India’s customers with world-class inflight experiences celebrating the vibrant culture and colors of India.
– Yannick Assouad, Executive Vice-President Avionics, Thales
Thales also promises potential for integration of a wide range of services and applications. These include an interactive 3D map and route-based content programming.
The Thales kit will be retrofit on to 40 of Air India’s 777 and 787 aircraft. It will also be installed as a linefit option on 11 A350 and 787s.
Notably, these 51 planes will differ from the initial 6 A350s delivered to Air India. Those six, initially built for Aeroflot, are flying with IFE from Panasonic Avionics on board.
