Hot food is back for economy class passengers on Alaska Airlines. The carrier’s pre-order meal program now offers hot meals for purchase on (nearly) all flights over 1,100 miles.
It’s been difficult to keep it a secret – but for more than a year, our team has quietly worked behind the scenes taste testing the best hot food options with our culinary chef and creating a West Coast-inspired menu. Now no matter where they sit, guests will get to taste our world class food and beverages.
– Todd Traynor-Corey, managing director of guest products at Alaska Airlines
The new menu launches with four options, depending on time of day and direction of travel. Flights departing the carrier’s west coast hubs at breakfast time will see a Carnitas Breakfast Bowl option on board. Flights headed to those hubs will serve a Monte Cristo breakfast sandwich. For lunch and dinner the options are a Panang Chicken Curry or Pretzel Roll Sliders (served on King’s Hawaiian buns).

The hot meals are priced at $8-$11.50.
As with the other fresh food options, Alaska Airlines passengers must pre-order the hot meals, from two weeks until 20 hours prior to their flight. This helps the carrier accurately predict demand and eliminate waste, though it can be frustrating for last-minute travelers (ask me how I know).
Additionally, the company notes that some longer flights will not see the service offered, including redeye departures and markets where catering facilities are not available at the departure airport.
