Narrowbody aircraft remain disconnected, and we’re bringing them into the digital era through Eutelsat’s OneWeb high-speed LEO connectivity services and Gogo ESA hardware – enabling ancillary revenue growth, streamlining operations, and providing passengers with connectivity on par with their ground experiences.
– Jimmy M. von Korff, Executive Chairman and co-founder of Immfly
Immfly is targeting the U/LCC market with the solution, with a terminal optimized for a narrow-body or regional jet. The system also uses Immfly’s Equilux Aero on-board server, offering a network-agnostic platform to the cabin.
This will also enable Immfly’s suite of digital cabin services, including on-board retail and entertainment options.
Immfly promises rapid installation (24-30 hours) and a lighter solution than typically deployed today. Whether it can deliver on that, especially given the range of LEO-only options on the market, remains to be seen.
The antenna hardware will be sourced from Gogo‘s Plane Simple product line. This is notable in that Gogo and Immfly are taking a solution initially designed for the business aviation world and bringing it to the commercial market. And it represents Gogo getting back into the commercial aero connectivity space, five years after it sold that business off to Intelsat (now SES). Eutelsat confirms that its contract remains with Gogo; the Immfly capacity being delivered via that reseller relationship.
It appears Immfly will be using the Gilat version of Gogo’s Plane Simple antenna line. Requests for confirmation are pending with the companies.
