Gulfstream business jet owners looking to install Starlink’s inflight internet services have, for the most part, depended on the STC program from Nextant Aerospace, first developed last September, to support their efforts. Over the past several months the published STC has been revised, expanding the aircraft types on which the kit can be safely installed.
The version published on 7 March 2024 identified the GIV-X (marketed as the G350 or G450) as the approved type for the system. That was followed a week later by an amendment adding the GV-SP (marketed as the G500 or G550). Another two weeks later the GV type was added to the certificate.
Given the commonality between the types and the installation process this makes sense. It is similar to how STCs are extended and amended for IFC installations on commercial aircraft as well. And it shows the value to those developing the STCs to expand their installation opportunities.
Another recent installation, however, occurred without an STC, which is also an interesting, and only slightly unexpected approach.
