United Airlines officially unveiled its newest Polaris Lounge today, opening the facility at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) for the media. Passengers can access the facility starting on 12 January 2019. Like the airline’s other Polaris lounges the LA version features curated food and beverage menus, showers, sleep pods and multiple seating areas for travelers to relax or work during their journey. It also features LA-specific offerings, highlighting local suppliers and culture.
Two of the specialty cocktails are LA-specific, for example. The On Sunset is a nod to Sunset Boulevard, made with Casa Noble Tequila, Del Maguey Single Village Mezcal and agave nectar, finished with Angostura bitters. The Let’s Rumble uses locally distilled Crusoe rum and prickly pear puree, among other ingredients.

The lounge sits above the rotunda in the center of Terminal 7 at LAX, offering views to the west of the famous LAX Theme Building and ATC control tower. It replaces the carrier’s First Class Lounge that previously occupied the space. The Polaris Lounge doubles the size of the old space to more than 12,000 square feet and can seat 140 passengers.

With power outlets galore and space for passengers in the current volume of long-haul flights the new lounge is a significant upgrade for business class travelers on United at LAX.

More New United Clubs
In addressing the crowd CEO Oscar Munoz highlighted not only the new LAX facility but also four other lounges across the network that will open as new or be renewed in 2019.
The new terminal at New Orleans’s Louis Armstrong International Airport (MSY) will include a United Club, bringing passengers a new option to relax before their flight. Construction recently started and, while no specific opening date is set, United hopes to be ready at the time the new terminal opens or soon thereafter. Similarly, a new United Club lounge is coming at Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU). Construction is already underway. Again, no formal opening date target but it should be a matter of months, not years.
At New York City’s LaGuardia Airport (LGA) the new central terminal will soon boast a new United Club. Among other benefits, the new lounge will be inside security, making it more convenient for travelers. Construction there is essentially complete. United is awaiting work on the rest of the new terminal for its opportunity to move into the new gates and new lounge.
Finally, United is also renovating its lounge in Fort Lauderdale, Florida (FLL) this year.
