
AirAsia will boost its investment in contactless, biometric boarding systems across its service footprint. The carrier partnered with Vision-Box to implement the Orchestra Identity Management System and extend it to its network of 152 airports. The system powers FACES (Fast Airport Clearance Experience System), the airline’s contactless facial recognition passenger processing system.

The FACES system initially deployed in the company’s Kuala Lumpur headquarters, controlling staff access to the facility. The carrier also performed limited trials with passengers. In an effort to increase efficiency and reduce contact points at bag drop, security checkpoints, boarding gates and elsewhere throughout the travel experience the carrier is now poised to significantly increase the system deployment.
Orchestra will interconnect with AirAsia’s network to regulate all virtual and physical security and data infrastructure in real-time, bridging and managing the information flow between traveller processing points, multi-source data streams, and relevant stakeholders.
Miguel Leitmann, CEO of Vision-Box,expects the “partnership will lead to a traveller management model that will drive how passenger identification and clearance is conducted in the near future with substantially reduced operating costs, increased efficiency and improved output.”
