Alaska Airlines has a strong history of benefits for locals: the Club 49 program offers free bags and some discounts for those residents. Now that’s extending to Hawai’i with the new Huaka‘i by Hawaiian offering.
Enrollment is automatic for customers with a mailing address in Hawai’i on their HawaiianMiles account. Those members will receive:
- A free checked bag – inclusive of surfboards, golf bags, and other sports equipment – on Neighbor Island flights
- 10 or 20% off one Neighbor Island booking per quarter
- Network-wide deals monthly
“Huaka‘i by Hawaiian is our special way to mahalo Hawai‘i residents for their support of our airline, and to further acknowledge our vital role in bringing our island communities together for now 95 years,” said Hawaiian Airlines CEO Joe Sprague. “Kama‘āina who already enjoy our superior service and convenient schedule of some 150 daily Neighbor Island flights will find it even easier to travel between the islands to visit family and friends, do business, or take a staycation.”
Within the new program the carrier still is emphasizing its co-branded credit card: primary cardholders of the World Elite Mastercard will get the 20% discount, as opposed to 10% for non-cardholders. The discount does come with one quirk, however. It only applies to a single passenger in each reservation. A family traveling together and each looking to take advantage of the discount would need to book separate reservations.
The new benefits take effect from 8 January 2025.
