The Embraer E2 family of aircraft will soon be available from the factory with Intelsat’s multi-orbit inflight connectivity solution installed. The Buyer-Furnished Equipment agreement for line-fit will allow airline customers can order planes with the Intelsat ESA system already installed by Embraer and operational upon delivery.
With Intelsat’s IFC system now line-fit available, we are enabling our airline customers to offer a highly optimized in-flight Wi-Fi experience that will keep them competitive and allow them to delight their passengers.
– Martyn Holmes, CCO, Embraer Commercial Aviation
This deal appears related to Embraer’s announcement at Farnborough last summer, though not entirely so. That called for the E175s to see connectivity fittings. This news makes much more sense, however, as the E175s are already being retrofit with the hardware from Intelsat (American Airlines, Air Canada, Alaska Airlines) and Hughes Networks (Delta Air Lines).

Intelsat joins Viasat as a line-fit offerable connectivity option on the E2 family. KLM, Azul, and Porter Air have take E2 jets with the Viasat kit installed by Embraer over the past several years. Intelsat, however, is the first solution implementing an ESA, and the first delivering multi-orbit connectivity.
