Passengers and airlines alike have different priorities these days. With those new needs in mind Panasonic Avionics (PAC) reviewed its broad range of offerings, pulling together a focused set of services and products dubbed the Welcome Aboard Collection to help airlines navigate the shifting landscape and reinforce customer confidence. While the overall focus centers around the inflight entertainment system and passenger touch points the Collection incorporates improvements for cabin crew and ground staff as well.
These are challenging times for the airline industry, and we have leveraged our proven track record in digital innovation in the aircraft cabin to deliver solutions that can help make travel a safer experience for passengers and cabin crew.

Shifting to light-touch for passengers
When it comes to interacting with the inflight entertainment systems on board PAC highlights its Companion App and Onboard Reader products. The Companion App allows travelers to use their personal devices as a remote control for some IFE functions while the Onboard Reader can displace print magazines with digital versions. Not only do passengers have access to more content options but they can do so using the device that they’re already most comfortable with touching on a regular basis.
The Welcome Aboard Collection also includes PAC’s Active Surfaces technology to ease the cleaning process between flights and the nanoe Air Cleanser. Nanoe helps improve air quality by generating nano-sized electrostatic atomized water particles that the company says can suppress odors and inhibit certain viruses, bacteria, and allergens.
Making content a ZeroTouch operation
To help reduce the time and touch points for ground crew on aircraft Panasonic is pushing its ZeroTouch content loading services. By managing those functions remotely the manual labor and physical presence on board is dramatically reduced.
Pulling the Welcome Aboard Collection together
If these components sound familiar then you’ve been paying close attention over the past few years as PAC’s suite of offerings evolved. These are not new ideas or even new implementations. But most airlines still aren’t taking advantage of the opportunities available. That’s what Panasonic Avionics wants to see change.
In judging whether the current climate demands acceleration of existing trends or a wholesale revolution of the inflight passenger experience PAC is squarely focused on the former. Airlines can continue to extract value from the existing infrastructure on board making the necessary incremental improvements to improve passenger safety and satisfaction.
