The flight I chose, and the RPU winner is…

12 August 2014 By Seth Miller 6 Comments

What’s the difference between in-flight comfort and enjoying the trip overall? Just one example: I’m flying coach rather than business class because I know I’ll arrive more alert and happier.

New Aer Lingus business class seat with flat bed seats coming soon

31 July 2014 By Seth Miller 4 Comments

More flat beds will soon be flying across the pond thanks to the new Aer Lingus business class launching in March 2015. Lounges and dining upgrades coming, too.

Inside a Gogo ATG4 installation

14 July 2014 By Seth Miller 2 Comments

There’s a lot of work which goes in to putting the Gogo hardware on to an airplane. Take a look inside a Delta 737-900ER as the kit is installed. Hard to believe that the first thing they do with a brand new aircraft is rip it apart like that.

The tale of three in-flight internet services

10 July 2014 By Seth Miller 3 Comments

It is not often that one gets to test multiple in-flight wifi providers on the same day. I guess I can say I got lucky in that regard. Getting to use three different services within a 10-day span made for some good “comparison shopping” so to speak.

Roaming coming to in-flight satellite providers

3 July 2014 By Seth Miller Leave a Comment

Limited global coverage hampers the adoption of Ka-band satellite connectivity for many airlines. Two major providers will share networks to address the issue. Of course, they’re still limited to only having coverage where satellites are flying, so we’re still years away from a global solution.

La Compagnie: Low-ish fares for mediocre business class

19 June 2014 By Seth Miller 6 Comments

Disruptive is good. Affordable business class is good. La Compagnie is trying but seems to mostly be missing in the ability to deliver on a truly disruptive product or making it more affordable than the existing competition. Oops.

In-flight: The JetBlue Mint experience

16 June 2014 By Seth Miller 73 Comments

Welcome on board the very first passenger flight for JetBlue Mint, their new business class product. With flat-bed seats, premium meals and even four mini-suites on board this is very, very much not the JetBlue of 15 years ago.

JetBlue extending free Fly-Fi trial

11 June 2014 By Seth Miller 2 Comments

Free wifi is good; on a plane is even better. And JetBlue’s FlyFi is the fastest service flying in the skies today which makes it pretty compelling. Of course, it is still free because it is a beta product which isn’t perfect. But still a nice price point.

Still the best in-flight internet. When it connects.

22 May 2014 By Seth Miller 7 Comments

The Fly-Fi in-flight internet product from JetBlue (same hardware as United’s 737s, too) remains the best connectivity solution I’ve ever used on a plane. Alas, there are still reliability issues. It is spectacular when it works, though.

In-flight: Taking the Southwest/Row44 wifi for a ride

16 May 2014 By Seth Miller 8 Comments

With more than 500 planes fitted with the Row44 in-flight internet kit a flight on Southwest these days is quite likely to mean an opportunity to be online while in the air. With my most recent work trip including a segment on Southwest that also meant an opportunity for me to try out the satellite-based […]
