Passengers can expect to see new and more dynamic pricing options for in-flight internet service on Spirit Airlines in the months ahead. Nearly a year after the company formally launched its on-board Wi-Fi program, Martin White, Director of Ancillary Products at the carrier, confirmed to PaxEx.Aero that new pricing plans and models are slated for trial later this year.
Spirit takes a consistent approach to pricing its ancillary offerings. They’re least expensive during the initial ticket purchase flow and increase over time, topping out for transactions at the airport or on board. But, White notes, they have not done that for the Wi-Fi service, at least not yet. “Typically if you buy something upfront, it’s going to be cheaper than if you buy it later; it gets more progressively more expensive. We haven’t done that [yet] with Wi-Fi, by design. But we’re going to test whether or not that works.”
White also noted that the company has plans for something akin to a family plan, allowing travelers to purchase service for multiple devices in a single transaction. Breeze Airways president Tom Doxey recently shared that it, too, has its eye on a family plan when its paid models go live later this year. For both carriers the details remain in flux as they continue testing and integration.
