In a sign that the aircraft will keep flying for some years to come, Lufthansa will retrofit the in-flight entertainment hardware on its 747-8i fleet with the Panasonic Avionics NEXT platform.
The in-flight moving map just got a bit more interesting for Lufthansa passengers. The carrier announced a deal with FlightPath3D to implement the 3D map solution across Lufthansa’s long-haul fleet. The new service flies first on the A350, with future integrations planned on 787, 747-8i, and A330 aircraft.
It is a creative way to generate a bit of extra revenue and great margins on the cost of the extra pillow and blanket loaded for the flight.
A “Letter of Intent” making the rounds online last week suggested that Avatar wants to buy thirty 747-8i planes from Boeing. Despite being shared as a credible potential order by some outlets nothing could be further from the truth.
