US carriers cut frequencies, not destinations as they seek federal funding

Getting that federal bailout cash means keeping all existing destinations in service for the US airlines. That could prove troubling for some as the cutbacks are already in motion.

JetBlue plans additional draw down in service

On Wednesday JetBlue indicated plans to remove 40% of its capacity for April and May. As with other airlines, however, the carrier continues to see demand free fall. On Sunday afternoon JetBlue President & COO Joanna Geraghty sent a note to inflight crewmembers indicating that further cuts are at hand.

JetBlue removes 40% of capacity, delays new deliveries as demand drops

JetBlue joins the collection of US carriers slashing its schedule in response to a drop in demand. The carrier now intends to reduce fly by 40% in April and May, with an expectation of “substantial” cuts in June and July as well.

New month, new snacks and drinks coming to JetBlue, United, Delta

As the new month starts some passengers will have new snack options on board their flights. Both JetBlue and United Airlines plan updates to their complimentary inflight snack rotations, while Delta Air Lines is switching up the beverage cart beginning in March 2020.

Airbus brings A321 production to Toulouse, replacing A380 work

Out with the A380, in with the A321neo. Airbus announced its intention to convert its A380 Lagardère facility in Toulouse to a final assembly line for the spectacularly popular and well-selling A321neo. The transition is expected to occur by mid-2022.

JetBlue confirms network shift to the east, cuts at Long Beach, closing Oakland

JetBlue will cut its Long Beach focus city to just 15 flights a day. The move, first tipped last night, is the latest in a shift of the airline’s resources away from the west coast as it optimizes the route network and pushes for greater profitability.

JetBlue increases baggage and change fees

Passengers are expected to tag their own bags at many JetBlue airport lobbies. And now also pay more for that privilege.

Raising fares is relatively hard for airlines. Raising fees, on the other hand, tends to work out reasonably well. JetBlue is about to find out just how well as it increases fees for checked baggage and phone-based customer support.

JetBlue goes green with carbon offsets, sustainable fuel deal

JetBlue passengers flying on domestic routes will not have to choose whether they want to purchase carbon offset credits or not going forward. The carrier announced today that it would take on that burden beginning in July 2020. The carrier will also ramp up the use of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) from the middle of the year, beginning with flights departing San Francisco.

JetBlue boosts Boston-LaGuardia Shuttle to 10x daily
