
A shift may, in fact, be underway in the IFC market, but Viasat is still riding high. The company’s latest quarterly earnings note a 13% increase in commercial aviation aircraft in service over the past year, now around 3,950 active. Services revenue grew slightly slower, at a 12% clip.
The company says its commercial aviation backlog grew even faster over that same period, increasing 22% to 1,570. This includes 60 new frames added since the prior quarter.
But pressures on revenue remain. The company’s fixed services offering dropped faster than the mobility and government segments grew. Plus maritime revenues dropped. Overall the company’s communications services revenue was down $55 million YoY, or about 6.3%.
