Alaska Airlines wants to expand its frequent flyer base in California, and free flights are on offer. The company will give away up to 25,000 round trip flights to California residents that joins the loyalty program this week.
We’ve made our mark in California, and we love converting new fans into loyal ones. There’s so much West Coast territory for Californians to explore––especially within their own state––that we’re excited to offer a fun way to jumpstart earning Alaska miles doing just that.
– Natalie Bowman, Alaska Airlines’ managing director of marketing and advertising
The promotion applies only to new enrollees in the MileagePlan program and only if they apply in the next three days. On Friday eligible members will receive an email with a promotion code to book the trip; only taxes/fees up to $15 will be charged.
The free travel must be booked between March 5-7, 2021 for travel between March 29 and May 26, 2021.
Putting aside the COVID pandemic that is still a major problem across the country, including in California, this is an interesting approach for the company to attract some new members into the program. And the acquisition costs are spectacularly low given current flight loads.
Separately, the company is offering a 10-30% discount on flights starting or ending in California – excluding Hawaii – by booking today through March 3, 2021 for travel between March 22 and May 26, 2021.
