Elite status will be a bit easier and better in the JetBlue TrueBlue program next year. The carrier announced changes to the Mosaic status tier on Wednesday, including lower travel and spend requirements to qualify and a BOGO travel option in the first several months of the year.
Mosaic Companion Pass
The “companion pass” option is perhaps the most exciting part of the news. A Mosaic member does not have to name the companion in advance; it can be a different person for each trip. But there are still some some limitations.
For starters, it only applies for bookings made and for travel completed between January 1 and May 20, 2021. The booking can only be made over the phone (losing the double reward points for online bookings) and effectively is issued as a 50% discount for each of the two tickets. That means earning rates towards requalifying for Mosaic are reduced (more on that below).
And the program expires just before Memorial Day, around the time that hopes are high for a recovery of travel demand. Vaccine distribution should be running smoothly by then and more people will likely be flying. But the benefit will run out.
Reduced Mosaic Qualification Requirements
The company chose in mid-2020 to extend prior qualifications out through 2021. For new earning or to requalify in 2021 for the 2022 program year the rates are mostly cut in half. Travelers with 7,500 Mosaic Qualifying Points ($2,500 in base fare spend, excluding taxes/fees) Or 6,000 MQP plus 15 paid segments will qualify.
The option to earn the status with $50,000 spend on one of the premium co-brand credit cards also remains. And a new option “exclusively for 2021” will grant the status with $30,000 spend on the credit card and another 4,000 MQP ($1,334 in base fare spend).
Bonus Offers and Even More Space
After an on-again, off-again informal benefit of giving complimentary access to the Even More Space seats at the airport (and even in advance during the first year of the program), this is now a formal benefit for Mosaic members and all other passengers on the same PNR. The option to book it in advance paying with points also remains. That cost will be “slightly higher than in years past, but continues to be at a significantly reduced rate.”
For travelers who do spend big bucks on JetBlue travel in 2020 there are additional offers available:
- 10,000 Mosaic Qualifying points – 10,000 bonus points
- 20,000 Mosaic Qualifying points – Gift Mosaic status to anyone of your choosing (valid through 2022)
- 30,000 Mosaic Qualifying points – Free round-trip flight certificate in our Core Experience (valid for one year)
