Members of the Air Canada Aeroplan loyalty program have a new option to expand their travels into Australia. The carrier announced that Virgin Australia will be a partner for both earning and redemption of frequent flyer points as of 19 January 2021.
Freshly emerged from bankruptcy reorganization, Virgin Australia is not the regional and transpacific juggernaut it once was. Still, the carrier offers significant reach into Australia for passengers arriving into the country with Air Canada or Star Alliance partners.

Earning Aeroplan points on Virgin Australia
Passengers will earn points based on distance flown and fare class. Premium cabin passengers will earn at an accelerated rate while cheaper fares will see reduced earning.

Passengers can also earn towards elite status when flying on Virgin Australia in limited scenarios. To accrue Status Qualifying Miles (SQM) and Status Qualifying Segments (SQS), as well as Status Qualifying Dollars (SQD) the segment must be operated wholly within Australia and ticketed by Air Canada.
Aeroplan redemptions on Virgin Australia
Under the new Aeroplan reward structures Virgin Australia integrates as another partner airline. This means they are priced based on the partner award chart and subject to the partner award surcharge for reward bookings. Flights on Virgin Australia can be combined with Air Canada and other international airline partners.
