Credit card partnerships are big business for US airlines. They can dramatically boost the value of a loyalty program and deliver a significant and recurring revenue stream. Smaller airlines with less mature loyalty programs, however, rarely can take advantage of this potential. Avelo appears to have found a compromise solution, partnering with Capital One to offer an offering that is not quite a true co-brand card, but still drives some of the same value propositions.
Avelo is bringing a new kind of air travel to communities across America and we’re proud to offer a new kind of credit card partnership to our Customers. Combining Avelo’s industry-leading affordability, convenience and reliability with the unique travel benefits and perks of the Capital One Venture and VentureOne cards rewards our Customers for spending and traveling on their terms.
– Travis Christ, Avelo Airlines Head of Marketing
Avelo customers can apply for the standard Capital One Venture or VentureOne cards. Enrollment bonuses, points earning rates, and redemption options follow the typical levels for those card programs. By signing up via Avelo’s portal, however, additional benefits are available.
Avelo does not operate a traditional loyalty program, so there are not a lot of opportunities to offer program-specific benefits. But the company did what it could within that available scope. New cardholders will receive a year of priority booking on Avelo travel, as well as a $100 or $200 statement credit for future Avelo travel.
This is not an exceptionally compelling offer. But it is an interesting way for an airline to tap in to the cobrand credit card segment, without needing to develop a full fledged loyalty program nor go through the machinations of developing a card portfolio. And for consumers interested in the CapOne cards anyways, a little Avelo bonus action is not so bad.
