Why scrap a perfectly good airplane? Whether an extremely large or reasonably small aircraft, the reasoning often is the same: Money. Images from the past couple weeks showing an A380 and Embraer Legacy 1000 headed to die raised questions and emotions about just how well the process works.

Qatar Airways takes delivery of new 787-9 Dreamliners in the most ridiculous way possible

Vistara aims for inflight wifi service with Nelco

Vistara is making a bid to be the first Indian airline with inflight connectivity installed. The carrier is reportedly partnering with Nelco, a local satellite services provider, to bring the service online. Neither party is confirming the deal, though Indian regulators confirmed that applications were processed and permits issued.

Airbus, Thales bring touch screens to the A350 flight deck

Pinch-and-zoom and panning gesture controls familiar to smartphone and tablet users the world over are now availalbe to the flight deck for the first time in a commercial aircraft. Airbus and Thales delivered the first certified and equipped plane to China Eastern, kicking off a new generation of interactive experiences for pilots.

Evelop taps Inflight VR for premium passenger entertainment

Some passengers on Spanish leisure carrier evelop! have a new inflight entertainment option on board. The Turista Plus (premium) cabin on the carrier’s A350s is now stocked with InflightVR headsets to help entertain passengers traveling between Spain and the Caribbean.

Antenna woes derail Spirit’s WiFi installation efforts

Spirit Airlines' first A321 with the Thales wifi kit installed. And the older generation radome.

More troubles for the Spirit Airlines inflight wifi program came to light today. Antenna issues with the Thales FlytLIVE kit will require the few existing installations to be replaced and tested anew before the full fleet deployment resumes.

Wheelchair accessibility regulations to be updated with Department of Transportation proposal

One of many smaller lavatories on the market and available to airlines. The US DoT is proposing some small changes to regulations around these lavs, but they come up far short of mandating an equivalent travel experience for passengers with reduced mobility.

The US Department of Transportation is finally poised to take action related to wheelchair-bound passengers on single-aisle aircraft. While any progress is good news, the limited scope of this effort leaves much to be desired.
