The exploded view version of the SES/Sidewinder terminal was on display at AIX; the version that flies on Boeing planes is likely to be a bit different
New Boeing aircraft can now be delivered with the SES multi-orbit inflight internet interior equipment factory-installed. This marks a major milestone for the companies as they move towards a more seamless deployment of the SES solution. Initial offerability will be on the Boeing 737 followed by 787 airplanes.

In this initial phase Boeing will install the complete SES in-cabin hardware network on production aircraft during factory production. Boeing also will “manage coordination” of the Gilat Sidewinder antenna installation work. That ESA installation will not happen on the production line but “immediately after delivery through a Boeing provided modification.”
This approach appears similar to the original 2Ku factory installation option on the A350s. In April 2016 Gogo and Airbus announced a partnership for the ACJC to handle the 2Ku installs on the A350 with Delta as a launch customer. While not a true line-fit offering the company presents the option as factory-installed, streamlining the install/delivery process for airline customers.
Today’s news is described as a “first key milestone,” not a completion of the program. It is also described by Mike DeMarco, president of Mobility at SES, as placing the companies “on track for full line-fit offerability, giving airlines a seamless path to select and install the multi-orbit electronically steered array (ESA) antenna solution during aircraft factory production.” This partnership growth would seem to focus on allowing for the AeroShroud installation to occur on the primary factory line rather than in that liminal state between final assembly and delivery.
