Spirit Airlines plans 5% growth reduction for April as COVID-19 hurts demand

Spirit Airlines is cutting its operations in April as demand drops in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak. Unlike some other carriers, however, the company is not shrinking.

Qantas cuts international 25% through September facing coronavirus-induced demand drop

Qantas is the latest major carrier to announce significant changes to its schedule in the wake of the coronavirus demand drop. Not only with the company make significant reductions in its international operations, but it plans for those changes to last until mid-September 2020, the furthest out any airline has made changes yet. The carrier will swap types, reduce frequencies and suspend or delay some routes completely.

Flybe halts operations, enters Administration

Wednesday evening marked the end for embattled British regional airline Flybe. The carrier entered administration (a UK version of bankruptcy protection) and ceased operations. All future flights are canceled, leaving passengers, airports and employees across the United Kingdom to wonder what the future holds.

Viasat signs JAL for Aerodocs document management platform

Japan Airlines will adopt the Viasat Aerodocs document management system to support the airline’s safety and compliance objectives. The Aerodocs platform allows JAL to fully digitize documentation required for pilots as part of its electronic flight bag push.

Airlines press back on accessible lavatory plans

One of many smaller lavatories on the market and available to airlines. The US DoT is proposing some small changes to regulations around these lavs, but they come up far short of mandating an equivalent travel experience for passengers with reduced mobility.

Airlines are not keen to update the on-board lavatory experience to support passengers with reduced mobility, citing costs and limited options as part of the objections.
