JetBlue plans “aggressive” route map changes

8 October 2018 By Seth Miller 2 Comments

The current destinations for JetBlue show a shift towards more seasonal service and some markets that previously would never have been considered. That approach should grow under these expected changes.

The JetBlue route map should look very different later in 2019 compared to today. While transatlantic operations are not to be had in 2019 the current route network should see “aggressive” redeployment of aircraft. At risk of change are several destinations in the Midwest, as well as some smaller markets on the East Coast.

JetBlue spent the past several years teasing the idea of transatlantic flying. The company believes its Mint business class service could clean up in a market that sees high fares and relatively limited competition. Alas, it remains a dream in many ways. The market was reminded this morning at an investor briefing that such a “distraction” is not welcome at this time.

23 September 2018 By Seth Miller 2 Comments

The first A35-900 ULR delivery to Singapore Airlines took quite the detour, flying nearly polar, similar to the path it will fly to North America in just a couple weeks.

The first A350-900 ULR flew home to Singapore on Saturday. The routing it took was rather less than ordinary, lasting more than 16 hours and included a visit to the North Pole.

21 September 2018 By Seth Miller 2 Comments

Reports out this week have Emirates and Etihad once again circling around a potential merger. The politics behind such a deal are interesting but the airport terminal issues are massive. And Hyperloop might be the answer, a solution just crazy enough that it could work.

Swoop: A marketing machine that happens to fly planes

18 September 2018 By Seth Miller Leave a Comment

Canadian upstart Swoop, the ULCC arm of WestJet, aims to succeed as an airline mostly by not really acting like an airline. Sure, there are airplanes and pilots and such, but CEO Steven Greenway is adamant that change come quickly. And he’s keen to dramatically upset the North American aviation market along the way.

5 September 2018 By Seth Miller 1 Comment
