United plans more seats per departure with fleet renewal

16 October 2019 By Seth Miller 1 Comment

United Airlines wants to get bigger. The carrier has plans to expand its fleet in the coming years but it also wants to get more seats in the sky per flight. And it wants to accomplish that without adding more seats to the existing aircraft. It is a somewhat complicated challenge, but if things go right United expects 3% more seats per departure on average a year from now.

Inflight WiFi for JSX slips to 2020

16 September 2019 By Seth Miller Leave a Comment

A JSX E135 sporting the company's new livery

When JSX (formerly JetSuiteX) CEO Alex Wilcox took the stage at APEX EXPO last week in Los Angeles and proclaimed his optimism about the carrier’s upcoming inflight wifi service it was not much of a surprise. That the service will not be live until Q1 2020 was a bit of a surprise, however, as the original announcement expected the offering online before the end of this year.

This story is about: air-to-ground, APEXEXPO, APEXEXPO19, ATG, ATG-NG, Embraer, in flight, in-flight connectivity, in-flight internet, inflight connectivity, JetSuiteX, JSX, LTE, regional jet, SmartSky, wifi Filed Under: IFEC, PremCat

Forget the names: Mitsubishi wants its new interior to win over customers

A rendering of the new SpaceJet, formerly known as the MRJ

The new name – it is now officially the SpaceJet M90 – does not really matter for the future of the MRJ. But a new interior and revised scope-compliant model might just be enough to win over customers for the manufacturer.

This story is about: E175, economy class, EJets, embedded IFE, Embraer, IFE, IFEC, in-flight connectivity, in-flight entertainment, in-flight internet, in-seat power, inflight connectivity, inflight entertainment, MItsubishi, MRJ, MRJ70, overhead bins, regional jet, Space Jet, Streaming IFE Filed Under: Airplanes and Airports, IFEC, Seats & Cabin

If you can’t join them, buy them. Mitsubishi appears poised to do just that as Bombardier seeks to offload its CRJ regional jet product line. At least it would solve the scope clause issues.

Can Space Jet save the MRJ??

4 June 2019 By Seth Miller 4 Comments

Can a rebranding and redesign of the Mitsubishi Regional Jet to “Space Jet” restore the type’s fortunes? The market could use a competitor to shake up Embraer’s monopoly, but uncertainty and further delays are not going to help the MRJ break into the market.

Viasat’s inflection point

24 May 2019 By Seth Miller

Even as the company pushes forward with the build-out of its new ViaSat-3 constellation with dramatically more bandwidth and geographic coverage, it hopes to convert the existing capacity into new deals and new subscribers, with a significant push into new inflight connectivity markets, among other areas.
